ARM adapter APIS

To accommodate systems management products that want to extend the basic capabilities provided by EWLM, the ARM 4.0 library routine delivered for each operating system provides an ARM adapter layer by which ARM API extensions to the systems management product might be called. When a systems management product uses the ARM adapter APIs, it can extend the functions provided by EWLM, such as accumulating more detailed reporting data, providing alerts when unusual conditions are detected, or logging performance statistics in a performance management database.

The APIs that support the ARM adapter are similar to the ARM 4.0 API calls. However, the semantics of the APIs differ somewhat because the adapter logic does not interface directly with the instrumented application, and because EWLM-specific API results, such as a transaction’s classification result, are provided to the adapter.

The ARM adapter layer is unique to the EWLM implementation of ARM 4.0, and is not an element of the Open Group standard. In addition, the ARM adapter APIs are currently only supported on C applications.
