Bloody Hell…Where’s The Runway

October 21st, 2009

A German amateur pilot was completely drunk on beer and wine prior to takeoff. Nevertheless, that didn’t prevent the 65-year-old from soaring above Thuringia, the easternmost German territory. Because of his wasted state, his Cessna light aircraft had to be guided to land by a rescue helicopter after he radioed the control tower.

It appears that, the man had been drinking a lot before takeoff, and that continued while in the cockpit. After two more hours of drinking cocktails in the cockpit, the pilot was so drunk that he was incapable to comprehend the instruments which told him where the Schoengleida airfield was.
The guy radioed back to the tower, “Come on, I know you’re down there… Where the bloody hell have you hidden yourself?” The gentleman was referring to the landing strip he couldn’t catch sight of. Air traffic controllers also reported the man sang a few songs and delivered some jokes about his mother-in-law.

Controllers didn’t know what to believe. They erred on the side of caution by believing some of the plane’s instruments had failed. So they commissioned a rescue helicopter to aid the man. The helicopter met the man in clear blue skies and gave orders for the pilot to go along with.
The pilot, after considerable time, with the help of the helicopter, was able to make a sound landing. The helicopter pilot, after landing, revealed that the Cessna pilot reeked strongly of alcohol and was bumbling around. The man sluggishly walked back to his vehicle, and that’s when airfield officials called law enforcement.

The man was stopped on his way home by police and given a breathalyzer check, which showed that the man was more than four times over the official limit for driving. As a result, the man lost the advantage of having both his drivers and pilot’s licenses.

This man was totally irresponsible. First of all, drinking heavily before the flight shows how unintelligent he is, but to continue after take off? Maybe he forgot that he was an AMATEUR pilot, not to point out that he was wasted. Even seasoned pilots who have been flying for years shouldn’t be flying in that circumstance.

This man’s common sense is in question. He put his life in risk, and that could have had a huge effect on untold amounts of people, not to mention the fact that he could have crashed into someone’s house, ruined part of the runway, or caused destruction somewhere else.

This man was irresponsible, and had more than a duo of drinks. He was four times the legal limit. This man was so drunk he couldn’t find the runway, but luckily he landed safely. Then he had the audacity to go and drive his car home. It sounds like he has a few marbles unfastened in his skull. Even though the man lost his drivers and pilots licenses, that is not enough. He needs to be given more reprimand than just a slap on the wrist or he will do it yet again, and next time there might not be a favorable ending.
