Hackers are hacking churches computer systems
computer hackers have started victimizing the churches. The people are turning to churches in recent economic crisis to get some mental relief. The pastors are preaching in churches which can be seen through television broadcasting. During the speeches they are asking for donations too. The donations can be paid through credit cards on the phone. The hackers are trying to hack the systems of churches which lack the security and easy to steal the people credit card information. The churches are holy places where sometimes people wont think of doing wrong thing but in hackers mind nothing is holy.
In August 2008, the professionals at LIGATT Security International (www.LIGATT.com) discovered a message that was posted by computer hackers in an unidentified hacker chat room. The message referenced a Black Enterprise magazine article that detailed the affluence of African American mega churches and their Bishops. In this chat room, a hacker was quoted saying, “I have been hacking churches for years and have never been caught. I have full access to over one hundred churches and sell their members’ names and addresses to illegal Mexican immigrants for their identities at $10 a pop.”
Most of the churches IT professionals are volunteers work for free. In such kind of environment the deployment of security is difficult as the thinking level of charity management is totally different than of any business operations. In charity people dont think of threats normally while in business each aspect is taken into consideration.
