How To Repair Your Slow Computer – The Most Important Steps To Fix Your Low-speed Computer
“Why is my computer running slow. I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard people say that. Most of the people in my office have several computers. Typically they have one Windows machine and one Apple machine. The split between PC computers and Mac computers is about fifty fifty.
However, it’s always the PC computers that people say run slowly. I’ve repaired
the slow computer problem several times so now I’m the local guru, as it were. As a
result, right after I hear people say, “why is my computer running slow,” I then see them look at me.
Then they ask for my help.
I’m a good sport about it. I know what it’s like to have a slow computer, it stinks. Here is how I fix the slow computers. This process can often get the computers
as fast as new. I begin by asking a series of questions to learn some of the history.
My first question is usually something about how old the computer is, when did they buy it. If they tell me the computer is more than three years old, I tell them to buy a new one. I tell them this because any Windows personal computer that is more than three years old was designed to run application software
that is now obsolete.
Newer software programs are designed to use the full capabilities of the newest hardware. As such, you are basically asking your old computer to do something it was not
made to do. This can and will slow it down. Okay, so, if the computer is less than three
years old, I then ask about kids. I ask if kids have access to and use the computer. Seems
like a crazy question, unless you have kids. If you have kids, you know exactly why I ask this question.
‘Nuff said. Hang on, hear me out. If the children have access and they use the computer they are going to run gaming software because that’s what they like. Game software are nothing but Trojan Horses full of bad software. They deliver spyware, malware, viruses and all manner of other electronic junk. As a result, your computer slows down because
of all of the bad software.
As you might have guessed, the fix is to get rid of the games. Delete them, uninstall them or use remover programs to do the job. Okay, so you’ve gotten rid of the games and your computer is still running slow. What now? The answer is a virus scan. A virus scan will tell you if your PC is infected with a
virus and or which ones. Most scanner software will also remove the viruses it finds, if you want.
If you are given this option, remove all of the found viruses. The first time you do a virus scan you will be amazed at how many it finds. It can often be dozens or more. Most viruses don’t impact your computer in a big way. Some, a few, can be totally devastating and destroy data or swipe your information. Mostly they just “gum up the works” and make your PC run slowly.
So, if the viruses are gone and you still find yourself saying, “why is my computer running slow,” then it’s time to move on to spyware. Spyware may be responsible for your computer running slowly. Spyware takes a huge speed toll on the computer processor
because it’s basically parasitic. It’s a parasite that uses up processing capacity and that slows your computer down. So, what’s this spyware stuff anyway? Spyware is software that is designed to steal information from your computer. It steals passwords, keystrokes, files and basically
anything the programmer built it to do. As I mentioned, spyware takes up computer processing power and that slows your computer down. It slows it down because it has increased the workload on the processor. The CPU (central processing unit) already has a lot of work to do, specifically if it’s old. Spyware comes along and adds to that workload. The outcome is that your computer
starts running slow.
Fast forward and assume your spyware has been all cleaned out (use spyware removal software). Further assume that you are still asking yourself, “why is my computer running slow?” If that’s the case, the next step
is registry repair. The Windows registry is a core part of the Microsoft Windows operating system. The Windows registry is like a kind of master control file. The Windows registry controls many aspects of the Windows operating system and the personal computer at large. Like any file, the Windows Registry can become corrupt. This can happen as a result of an electric shock, a problem
with the hard drive or a number of other similar [spin]things.
The Windows registry can also be hacked by spyware or a virus. The thing to do is to run a registry check and repair program that will find and repair any problems. After you have run a Windows registry repair program and resolved any found issues the next and final step is to run a patch update. This basically means checking to make sure the Windows operating system has all the patches it needs

Once your Windows operating system is current on its patches, it will tell you when a new patch is available. All you need to do it keep an eye on your system tray on your desktop. When the Windows icon goes yellow, click on it and follow the directions. Oopps. Almost forgot, you need to run a hardware diagnostic. This will check
all of the hardware systems on your personal computer and the interface to the Windows operating system. Your computer probably came with a diagnostic when you got it new. If you can’t find it, check the manufacturer’s web site. The good news is that you don’t have to do all these steps one at a time. There are lots of good programs
on the market that will do most or all of the steps in a single pass process. Do a few Google searches to find one you like. Often personal computer repair type software can be bought for under $100 and is well worth it.
