Wow… Apple MacBook Pro MB985LL/A Better In Most Ways Than Previous Models

March 8th, 2010

Apple MacBook Pro
Apple’s latest version of the MacBook Pro combines a sleeker case, more GB of RAM, an SD slot, and longer battery life, all with a lowered price. The 15″ LED backlit display (available on the previous models as well) is simply gorgeous, with crisp graphics and easy-on-the-eyes clarity.

Unlike older models of the MacBook and MacBook Pro, this laptop runs fairly cool, even after hours of using a lot of processor power. The case, though not as thin as the Air, is slimmer than most (non-Apple) laptops I’ve seen, with an aluminum case that resists fingerprints better than the old MacBooks. The keyboard is comfortable, with responsive keys, and is lit from behind with blue light. The touch pad is a single square, without a visibly separate clicker, although it’s there, at the bottom, under the pad, with right and left click functions; navigation using the touch pad and clicker is extremely easy, but most heavy users will want to purchase a separate mouse, as they would with any laptop.

The 4 GM RAM is twice what the lower end of the Pros offered previously. The battery life is now at seven hours. Naturally, the actual time depends on what you are doing, but the estimate comes pretty close. The SD slot is a nice touch. The GEForce NVIDIA integrated graphics has been in the Pros for at least a generation, with generally good reviews, although this newer entry-level Pro no longer has the dedicated graphics chip. If you want the best Mac graphics, you’ll have to purchase one of the more expensive Pros that include the integrated graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT chip. For most people, however, this version is enough.

The MacBook Pro comes bundled with the newest iLife Suite, a fantastic set of programs that keep getting better: iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band, PhotoBooth, iDVD, etc. Users of older versions of these programs will be blown away. This MacBook should come with Snow Leopard, Apple’s latest OS X, released in September 2009. (For more information about Snow Leopard, see Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard)

If you want to occasionally run Windows on this, you’ll need to buy a copy of Windows, such as Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition FULL VERSION with SP2 or other version, and a program such as Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac or VMware Fusion 2. Keep in mind that if you plan to run most programs on a Windows platform, you should probably not get a Mac. Most programs these days will have versions for each platform, but there are exceptions.

Students and heavy word-processing/presentation users should consider purchasing Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Home & Student Edition.

The MacBook Pro is a fantastic machine. The debate between PCs and Macs will continue to rage, even as computers like this Pro win converts. Consumers who wish a small, budget desktop Mac instead of a laptop should look at the Apple Mac mini MB463LL/A Desktop.

NOTE: This review is for the 15.4 inch MacBook Pro. Amazon has pooled the reviews for all sizes. According to another customer, the 17 inch size does not have an SD slot and instead has an Express Card slot.

Test An IPad – Your Opinion Earns You A Free Apple IPad

February 26th, 2010

Major corporations such as Apple need actual consumers to test their new products at home. Of course new products go through a battery of tests in labs and by professionals, but until actual consumers try them out, the company doesn’t really know if they have met the consumer expectation. This is where you come in.

The Apple iPad has recently launched and is currently in the consumer testing phase. This means you could receive an ipads: to use, test and keep forever! The only thing required of you is to give your opinions to Apple. They want to know what you think; did the iPad meet your expectations? What would you improve or change? These answers assist Apple with making improvements for new models.

You do need to be careful however, as there are many scam sites out there claiming to have free iPads available. You can quickly determine if it is scam simply by noting if they are charging you any money upfront. This is not how legitimate corporations work! They do not charge the consumer to test their products. On the contrary, they give you the product for free in return for your opinions.

These consumer testing give-a-ways only occur during the initial launch of a new product. Therefore, the window of opportunity is limited. You will need to act swiftly in order to be able to test an iPad out for yourself and share your ideas and opinions with Apple. There just isn’t a better way to get an iPad without having to spend any of your hard earned money!

Update – I have done a bit of research for you. I found this new apple ipad offer. Test the iPad before anybody else does.

Where you should buy or pre order the ipad?

Apple unveiled their much awaited tablet called the iPad that will be available in March. The question on everyone’s mind is to preorder the iPad or not to Preorder the iPad. For all the hype and buzz that it has created, we really should delve into what the iPad has to offer that our current breed of mini computers don’t.

What is all the fuss about?

According to Apple, the iPad is a touch-screen tablet that’s created to fill the void between the iPhone and the MacBook. With a 9.7-inch screen, it looks like a large iPod Touch with an accelerometer that allows it to switch from landscape and portrait modes. Early rumors suggested that the screen would be OLED but the final unit comes with LCD. It has In-Plane Switching or IPS to improve on the color reproduction and viewing angle.

A portable device isn’t complete if it can’t connect to the internet. The iPad comes with 82.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for interconnectivity. There are models equipped with 3G data as well. The Wi-Fi only versions will be available starting March while the units with 3G will be available in April. But you will be able to preorder your iPad much before that. More on that later…

The Apple iPad comes with built-in apps, such as the Safari Browser, email client, a music player, iTunes Store, maps, Youtube client, address book, calendar, and a QWERTY keyboard that would take up half the screen when used. It has a photo viewer with map view to see geo-tagged pictures with a slideshow mode.

iPad Apps

iPhone users are happy to find out that their favorite apps can also run on the iPad with any modifications. The apps will run in a small box in the middle of the touch screen or it can be maximized by clicking on the 2x icon. Existing apps for the iPod Touch or iPhone can by synced to the iPad for free.

There will also be exclusive iPad apps being developed. At present a few already exist, such as the New York Times newspaper reader, a painting app, demo version of Need for Speed game for the iPad, and an MLB.com app for baseball fanatics.

People are saying that the iPad is Apple’s answer to the Kindle and this might be true because Apple launched its e-book app called iBooks, which supports the ePub format. The iBook store features titles from Penguin, Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, and Macmillan and Hachette.

There’s a new iWork suite made for the iPad but instead of buying the whole thing, you can purchase individual iWork app individually for $9.99 each. Keynote lets the user create and view presentations. The tablet can be connected to a projector for group presentations. With Pages, the user can create and edit text documents. Lastly, Numbers is an app where the user can edit and create spreadsheets.

Should you Preorder the iPad?

As is the case, so very often, should you preorder the iPad? You may not be able to preorder it just yet, but when the time comes, I would say Yes! You usually get the best one-time offers during your preorder and how cool would it be to get your hands on the first copies of the iPad. But you would heed to do some research before you pre order the iPad. With every retailer on the planet getting ready to sell it, there are bound to be scams galore. Just make sure you find the best deal in the market before you invest in these bad boys.

Why To Purchase A Mac Computer!

June 21st, 2009

If you’ve never owned an Apple computer, you don’t know what you’re missing. On the other hand, if you regularly use Macintosh computers, you understand that once you have a Mac, you’ll never go back. An Apple Macintosh – whether it’s a MacBook, a Mac Pro, or an iMac – takes personal computing to a whole new level. I bought my first iMac in 1998, have upgraded twice, and am still happy as a proverbial clam. Here, then are five reasons to love the Apple Macintosh.

1. Cool elegance. If there’s one thing Steve Jobs knows how to do, it’s designing electronics that are ultra-cool yet beautifully elegant. Why have a cumbersome big box desktop computer when you can have everything you need in an elegant iMac? Behind that clear, bright 16:10 aspect ratio monitor is the entire computer, including a DVD drive and a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor. There’s even a webcam built into the iMac so you can video chat or video conference whenever the whim strikes.

2. Intuitive functionality. Even though Windows copied the friendly desktop interface from Apple Macintosh, they still haven’t been able to get it right. Navigating the Mac’s interface is truly intuitive, engaging, and just downright fun. With a mobile computing product like the MacBook, you can take full computing functionality wherever you go. And, wherever you’ll go, you’ll always be connected, since the MacBook automatically finds nearby wireless networks and gives you nearly instant online access.

3. Digital living. Macintosh computers are designed to embrace the digital lifestyle. MacBooks and iMacs come with iLife, a wonderful array of applications that let you effortlessly share photo albums, record podcasts and songs, and even create and edit movies. You can even publish your creations on the Web with a single click. How cool is that?

4. Bug-free. If you’ve been wrestling with Vista the past few months (or any other Windows operating system, for that matter), you don’t know the meaning of freedom. Macintosh computers’ operating systems are bug-free, and as for upgrades, you get to choose when to receive software update notifications, and always have the choice of updating now or in the future. Mac simply isn’t intrusive; you get to control technology, instead of having technology control you.

5. Workhorse. Macintosh computers are more than a way to frolic in your spare time. They’re also workhorses. For years, graphic artists and publishers have almost exclusively used Macs for work. With the Mac Pro, you can get Adobe Creative Suite 3, a suite of tools specifically designed for creative professionals. Whether you’re a web designer, a graphic artist, an art director, or a video professional, Adobe Creative Suite 3 will make your work easier, better, and more fun.

There are those who say that Macintosh computers are limited in that much of the available software is only compatible with PCs. My experience is that my Mac can do anything a PC can do – and do it better. But for those diehards who insist that they can’t live without Windows, the next version of Mac OSX, Leopard, will allow you to install Windows XP on the Mac. Right now, you can run Windows in emulation mode…although for the life of me, I don’t understand why you would want to!

Ivan Krstic will work for Apple

May 13th, 2009

Ivan Krstic who is the former security architect started working  for the One Laptop Per Child project  for Apple. The each laptop cost US$ 100. Krstic was engaged with OLPC before.

Krstic was the architect of the security systems and specialize in architecting the system in view of security. He will be working on core operating system security in Cupertino.

Though OLPC isn’t a large platform that hackers are known for targeting, it’s likely the way that Krstic thinks about security that attracted Apple’s interest.

Why apple banned sun from Iphone

May 5th, 2009

The sun was in the list of newspaper browsing application in iphone but later it was banned  by Apple because of its Page 3 content could be granted a reprisal – thanks to the impending release of firmware version 3.0.

The 59p Newspaper(s) app was approved for sale by Apple last week. It lets iPhone or iPod Touch owners read from a selection of “the 50 best” national and international papers.

When Apple announced last week that downloads from its App Store has topped one billion, it confirmed that “the iPhone OS 3.0 release will also add… expanded parental controls for apps”.

So the assumption is that if The Sun makes it into Newspaper(s) as a result of firmware version 3.0’s expanded parental controls then the floodgates will swing open for more people to submit raunchy iPhone apps.

Mac virus news turned to be false

May 5th, 2009

There is a news hovering about Mac virus. It looks  strange that Mac can be attcked by virus so easily as it was aired by a TV program  in USA.  The news seem to be totally misleading as it was not confirmed by any authentic source.

There was a rumour of virus in april too, which later was described as trojan. It found in bootleg copies of Apple’s iWork ’09 productivity suite and Adobe Photoshop CS4 found on BitTorrent trackers and other sites containing links to pirated software.

The systems infected were mostly using pirated softwares. however Aple responded it quickly and remedy was available immediately. If you think your Mac is infected with this Trojan horse, SecureMac has posted a free removal tool athttp://macscan.securemac.com. If, on the other hand, you’re among the millions of Mac users who are not software thieves and don’t install pirated software, you have little to worry about.

Macintosh systems runs more securely

May 4th, 2009

I always think about the security of Macintosh apple machines. The Macintosh is much better operating system when it comes to security. Why it has edge over others sytems? Some of the reasons are as follow.

1- It has industry standard security software development.

2- The security concern is a central to the design of operating system with smart architecture.

3- Due to open source nature, the problems can be solved easily with the help of ommunity.

4- The default settings makes it difficult to invade to the system or exploiting loophole is minimal.

5- Due to standardise application development, third party software are easy to develop and run on macintosh.

6- Apple respond very quickly if it find any flaw, the patches are released quickly.

The above features are quiet enough to give thumb to Macintosh Apple computers.

Maxis To OFFICIALLY Unleash Apple IPhone 3G In Malaysia!

March 16th, 2009

Yep! Finally it is here in Malaysia! Apple maniacs who have been waiting to lay their hand OFFICIALLY on Apple Inc’s iPhone can finally do so after a 2 long, tormenting wait. No doubt the iPhone had landed on our shores a long time ago, but nothing can beat the euphoria from possessing the real, genuine thing right? Of course I knew of a few people who bought their iPhone from the black market, but coming this 20th history will be made.

And as usual Maxis got the pie: Maxis Communications Bhd is set to capture a bigger slice of the already competitive mobile market with its latest offering. Malaysia’s NO 1# telco-Maxis, will be introducing the iconic iPhone on 20th of March (Next Friday) at a ceremony in KL Convention Centre (KLCC)! Maxis always know how to “magnify” themselves huh!

Of course, Maxis is very please to launch iPhone 3G in Malaysia as many of their mobile users have been eagerly anticipating for this so-called revolutionary phone. Perhaps too much hype about it, but still Apple’s iPhone proves to be one of the hottest gadget that geeks and non-geeks alike should have. Maxis also claimed that their customers will enjoy the many embedded and downloadable applications from the first time they use iPhone 3G

Maxis which had invested almost RM1.6bil into its network this year, and they will follow-up with a comprehensive upgrade and expansion programme that would further enhance its coverage and performance, including the high-speed 3G data network. Let’s hope the other telcos could catch up with Maxis which undeniably has better financial prowess! Although the announcement initiated some buzz in the market, some analyst were not too excited with Maxis’s latest offering. Maxis will have to wait and see if its strategy this time works! Maxis noted that the bundled voice and data service offered was first of its kind in Malaysia. Let’s see if this maiden milestone will conjure something up for the telecommunication industry!

An analyst said that he is not sure how well consumers can accept this, as Malaysian mobile service providers do not have the practice of selling phones along with their packages. Yeah! In Malaysia, you can find thousands or millions of “fake” hand phones which have similar qualities with the real ones. Fakes means un-taxed mobile phones. Besides that he also added that the product and service offered by Maxis were a little too late as it had been delayed for some time by the telco giant! And of course the hardcore fans of Apples have probably be using one already.

There are 3 plans offered by Maxis. The first one is iValue Plans (12 Months Contract), iValue Plans (24 Months Contract ) and the third one, Value Plus Plans (6 months contract). The followings are the illustrations: Click here!

Anyway, if you want to be one of the 1st legal owners of the iPhone 3G in Malaysia, make sure you made your booking before 17th March ok. See you next Friday at KLCC!
